Support Mike Domann
My name is Mike Domann. I am 56 years old and live with my wife, Jody, in Strongsville, Ohio. My 21-year-old son, Justin, is a United States Marine. I enjoy working out on my hand cycle and I am a huge fan of Cleveland sports teams; including the Ohio State Buckeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NASCAR, and the UFC.
When I was just 17 years old, an automobile accident left me paralyzed from my chest down. Four years later, I got involved in a functional electrical stimulation research program that allowed me to stand up and walk with a walker for the first time since the accident. It felt good to regain some of the abilities I lost, but I had to quit the program four years later because I was not progressing. It was no longer feasible to continue.
I worked 29 years for the federal government before retiring because of my severe chronic pain issues. I find that the pain is much more disabling than being in a wheelchair. My last job was as a Research Specialist at the Department of Homeland Security.
On May 31, 2016; I had the opportunity to test drive the TEK Robotic Mobility Device (RMD). The TEK RMD allows me to stand up easily and safely while navigating freely around my house, my patio, and up my ramp into my van. The most exciting benefit, however, is that the severe chronic pain in my feet and back were much less debilitating when I stood up in the TEK RMD. My back felt a lot better.
Since the TEK RMD is just 16 inches wide, it makes it easy for me to get down hallways and through narrow doorways. Because it brings me to a standing position, I have access to things throughout my house that I am normally not able to reach. It gives me a great independent feeling. My wife is also excited because the TEK RMD takes away my excuse for not doing the dishes.
The TEK RMD will also help with improved circulation, decreased incidence of pressure sores, enhanced respiratory function, better posture, increased self-esteem/confidence, and the ability to stand up instead of sitting all day. In my almost 39 years of being paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, this is the first device that has excited me like this. It offers me so many benefits on top of the most important advantage of pain relief.
I am using Reach Your Potential (RYP) and not one of the more popular crowd funding sites primarily because it is a nonprofit organization. All of the money donated by check to RYP goes toward the purchase of medical equipment. For donations made by credit card, RYP deducts only what the credit card companies charge for processing. Donations can also be tax deductible for those who itemize.
If you are going to make a donation by check, please write “Inspired by Mike Domann” on the memo line. Send the check to:

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping make this dream come true. Finally, did I tell you about the pain relief that comes from standing instead of always sitting? I think I mentioned that once or twice, didn’t I?
